At Urban Haus our stone comes in many forms. Natural stone enhances any floor or wall, inside or out, but so can manufactured solid surfaces like porcelain and quartz. We also install many products that once began life as stone in the traditional sense, but end up as curved stone veneers, cement based materials, tiles, and even stone wallpaper.
Our stone veneers are amazing. Thin veneers (from .5mm to 2mm thick) of slate, schist, or sandstone (metamorphic rocks) are pulled away from the original thicker stone slabs by adhering a thin layer of fiberglass/polyester resin composite backing. There is no grinding of the surface to make it thinner. When the resins cure the composite is "pulled" or "stripped" away, taking with it the thin layer of stone.
A bar with a thin layer of stone veneer applied around the curved corner. Not only does this technology make great use of natural stone, it is a more sustainable method than ways of using stone. The process of making the veneer only uses the top layer of stone. This means that a thick slab of slate can reveal hundreds of layers while leaving much of the stone for future generations. Processing this new material also reduces waste, because there is no need to mine, quarry, transport and process tonnes of extra material just to make the thin veneer that ends up in your home. Additionally, a single crate carrying hundreds of square metres of material can be transported where traditional stone products require far greater energy and expense in transportation.
Dekton Trilium has an industrial look and feel, and can be used for walls, floors, and worktops. What's more, it is almost indestructible....resistant to scratches from knives and even fire.
